VTG Levi’s Red Tab Waffle Knit Tee - ‘99 Short Sleeve Thermal (Men’s L)

Some pieces don’t rely on graphics to feel nostalgic. This vintage short sleeve Levi’s thermal lets the Tab and the texture do the talking.

Levi’s created their Red Tab signature in 1936 as a way for consumers to recognize their authentic denim in the wake of hundreds of imitators. Almost 100 years (and several versions) later, the Red Tab still serves that purpose while incidentally giving collectors a fun way to date items and search out eras.

This ‘99 waffle knit v-neck captures the Y2K utilitarian shift in casual dress. By the turn of the millennium, elements of functional workwear were making their way into everyday fashion basics. Levi’s took those basics and further elevated them by adding things like a football yoke, a contrast stitch, a cream and salmon color combo, and, of course… a Red Tab.
